The Nanticoke Watershed Alliance seeks citizen scientists to adopt one, two, or three sites in Wicomico County for our tenth season of water quality monitoring. The sites are located in Quantico and in or near Mardela Springs.
Nanticoke Creekwatchers monitor their adopted sites every other Sunday or Monday from late March through early November for a total of 17 sampling periods; volunteers should be available to monitor 14 out of 17 sampling periods. The 2017 sampling season will begin on Sunday/Monday, March 26-27 and end on Sunday/Monday, November 5-6.
Children aged 13 and higher may monitor with a parent or a guardian. No previous experience in water quality monitoring is required, but participants should be eager and open to learn, be able to follow an EPA-approved protocol, and be enthusiastic.
The NWA will kick off the season at the Tenth Annual Nanticoke Creekwatchers Training on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at the Baldcypress Nature Center at Trap Pond State Park. All Creekwatchers must attend training, and pre-registration is required.
