Drop-In Assistant
Description:
Drop-in center assistants serve as healthy adult role models to homeless youth, providing emotional, educational, and problem-solving support. Following Fenix Youth Project policies and procedures, drop-in center volunteers assist in the day-to-day functioning of the drop-in center and maintain youth confidentiality and safety during their shift.
Daily Task
- Must arrive on time for their scheduled shift and sign in on via Get Connected. (Shifts are: 8:00 am -12:00 pm; 12:00 pm -4:00 pm; 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM )
- At start of shift, check in with Director for any immediate needs
- All shifts are responsible for making sure public use spaces and rooms are clean and tidy at the start of the shift.
- All Shifts are responsible for checking in with other volunteers working in the center and/or in the field doing street outreach at the start and end of shift.
- At the end of the last shift, the volunteer is responsible for removing the days Volunteer/Staff Sign In Sheet and put in the “yellow” folder in the Sign In Section of the Volunteer Binder.
- At the start of the first shift, the volunteer is responsible for putting a blank Volunteer/Staff Sign In Sheet in the front of the “blue” folder in the Sign in Section of the Volunteer Binder
Responsibilities:
- cleanliness of the center (lounge, studio, and main area)
- Updating the messenger board in the main area with partner events and time-sensitive community resources
- Accepting donations for the center from donors and community members.
- Meal Program set up and break down and coordination of volunteers and donors.
- Maintaining the friendly vibe of the center at all times
- Answer the phone & manage calls per Fenix procedure
- Interact with youth and direct them to services needed
- Enforce and follow Fenix rules, policies, and procedures
- Carry out shift-specific housekeeping and administrative duties, including opening or closing
- Make a concerted effort to fill any previously scheduled shifts you are unable to make – volunteers are responsible for their shift
