Volunteers will visit residents to check in, provide spiritual advice or comfort, and be a friendly face. Chaplains can visit during the week, over weekends, or conduct a Sunday afternoon church service.
Those serving in a chaplain role should possess an ordination/license from their church or faith group, be enrolled in religious or theological studies in an accredited college or school of theological studies, or possess a lay-person certification.
All necessary training will be provided upon completion of on-boarding requirements.
In order to volunteer at Deer’s Head Hospital Center, you must complete the onboarding process outlined in the application. We ask that you commit to at least one calendar year of volunteer service at our facility. If you are seeking to complete community service hours for high school (15 years old or completed 10th grade) or college, please provide any necessary documentation from your institution prior to beginning volunteer services.
Applications for volunteer service at Deer’s Head Hospital Center are accepted on a rolling admission. Upon receiving your application, the Volunteer Services Director will review it and schedule an interview. References will then be contacted, a background check completed (18+ years old), and drug screening completed through our Human Resources Department. You will then be registered for an orientation program and complete initial COVID-19 testing. During orientation, you will either be scheduled for or complete a tuberculin skin test and influenza vaccination. At this time, we will also collect proof of COVID-19 vaccination for our Infection Control Department. The need for further COVID-19 testing will be communicated as needed. If you have had a tuberculin skin test within the last year and/or a flu shot within the current season, please provide documentation. After completing orientation and the above criteria, you will be placed in an area of service and start logging volunteer hours!
