Pick ups are often easiest for larger deliveries, but vans, SUVs and cars can help distribute smaller amounts to smaller agencies. Opportunities arise on short notice, as farmers find they have good, edible food that isn't marketable, and they need to clear it out. Volunteers drive to farms, farmers load the food, and agencies help unload.
