Who We Are

Mission: To preserve, restore, and interpret the 19th century village of the Nassawango Iron Furnace.

Furnace Town Historic Site, located in Snow Hill, Maryland, is a living history museum. Established in 1830 by the Maryland Iron Company, the furnace was constructed to smelt iron from local bog ore deposits. At its peak, the village housed approximately 300 residents who lived and worked in this company town.

What We Do

By maintaining the historical integrity of the site, Furnace Town serves as a valuable resource for understanding the early industrial era of Maryland. Visitors can explore reconstructed buildings, including the iron furnace, blacksmith shop, and workers’ homes, offering a tangible connection to the past.
