Who We Are
Girl Scouts have been committed to serving girls with the best leadership program designed specifically for girls for over 106 years. Girl Scouts founder Juliette Gordon Low saw a future when girls and women could come together in the spirit of sisterhood to make their communities and the world a better, safer and more equal place. Research shows that girls learn best in an all-girl, girl-led, and girl-friendly environment. Girl Scouts is a place where she’ll practice different skills, explore her potential, take on leadership positions—and even feel allowed to fail, dust herself off, get up, and try again.
What We Do
Girl Scouts is the world’s preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls, where, in an accepting and nurturing environment girls build character and skills for success in the real world. The Girl Scout Leadership Experience is girl-driven, reflecting the ever-changing needs and interests of today’s girls. We provide a wide variety of leadership opportunities via Girl Scouts journeys, our Financial Literacy programs, our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs, and awards that the girls can achieve. Programs encourage increased skill-building and responsibility and promote the development of strong leadership and decision-making skills. All program activities are grade-appropriate and based on the Girl Scouts Leadership Experience, as well as on the Girl Scouts Promise and Law. No matter what age, girls learn the innate value of sharing experiences in an all-girl environment, with caring, trained adults to serve as facilitators and mentors. Each journey is tied to some of Girl Scouts’ national outcomes for girls, as defined in the Girl Scouts Leadership Model. These outcomes have been thoroughly researched and are integral to the three leadership keys, Discover, Connect, and Take Action. In Discovering themselves girls will engage in activities that teach them to develop a strong sense of self by being able to make use of strategies to resist peer pressure with confidence and take responsibility for their actions. In Connecting with others they will focus on activities that teach them to develop healthy, diverse relationships by using positive communication and relationship building skills, to Take Action to be a positive force of change on local and global levels. Girls plan a project to work with community members and learn the importance of giving back to their communities.
